Moisture and Mold Are Partners in Forbing Properties --Until SERVPRO Arrives

Why SERVPRO May Repair Drips and Leaks Before Starting Mold Remediation Work on Your Forbing Home
Almost every home has one or two drips, somewhere from top to bottom, and many go unnoticed for months or even years. While a drip in the kitchen sink can keep people up at night, carpeting or other flooring types can muffle the sound enough that drips in other areas are relatively silent. When this happens, homeowners do not know that they are losing water.
The reason why it is so crucial for SERVPRO to eliminate slow leaks in a Forbing property before remediating any mold damage is to make the environment inhospitable to microbes as soon as possible. When we begin cleaning up mold, it releases spores into the air so it can propagate itself. If these spores land in moist environments, they can start growing immediately. However, if spores land in dry places, they cannot become active and cause problems.
We rely on our equipment to get materials dry inside your house, as well as to protect it from contamination by loosened mold particles and spores. We find these places by using specialized cameras that reveal the moisture in your home. Infrared imaging picks up on even the slightest difference in temperature, allowing us to 'see' the lost water that you might never know about otherwise.
We track these leaks down to their source. Then we can start sealing up leaks, tightening joints in pipes, and securing loosened water lines to their appliances to stop water loss. Air movers completely dry the area, with multi-purpose Injectidry units helping where needed. We might also opt to use desiccant dehumidifiers when water losses seem extensive.
Before we begin cutting away moldy walls and ceilings or cleaning mold-covered surfaces, we enclose the area with effective chambers made of plastic sheeting. Inside, each room contains an air scrubber with flexible tubing which we use to draw air inside your home to the outdoors. This air can contain microbes, dust, lint, fibers, and spores. Because of the negative pressure, these cannot escape into your home, but instead, get pulled into the air scrubber and either become trapped inside its filter or pushed through the tubing to the exterior.
