Call SERVPRO when you need fire restoration services.
As the city begins to open up, Shreveport residents and visitors can start enjoying local events and entertainment. While many will flock to the riverboat casinos, there are hundreds of other activities that no city does better, except maybe throwing beads.
More people are also discovering the family-friendly places and events held throughout each year. The Sci-Port Discovery Center is a place for children to explore and learn with the parents having as much fun as the kids. Other great places for family members of all ages are the American Rose Center Gardens, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, and the Shreveport Aquarium. For adults and older children, there is also the Red River Entertainment District and the Robinson Film Center.
Hot Music and a Hound Dog
For music lovers, there is the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the longest-running professional orchestra in Louisiana. Our city is proud to be the home of the Municipal Auditorium, which initially hosted the renowned radio program “The Louisiana Hayride.” It is the site for early performances of new artists and has been for over six decades. Elvis Presley wowed the crowd there in October 1954.
Festivals for Everyone
Music and film lovers also get to see local artists appreciated with the annual Louisiana Film Prize and the Louisiana Music Prize. More than an award show, these festivals bring in thousands of visitors from across the country. Other downtown festivals include
- The Cork Wine Festival
- The LGBTQ Film Festival
- Mudbug Madness
- The Red River Revel
On a much larger scale is the State Fair of Louisiana that draws in nearly the whole state as well as much of Arkansas and Texas.
Beer and More
Craft brewing has become much more than a niche market here in Shreveport. There are independent brewers all over, with many of them opening a pub to showcase their products. Companies like the Red River Brewpub and Great Raft Brewing are employing hundreds of people and serving up some of the finest beer, barbecue, po’boys, and seafood in the state.
There is one regional attraction that visitors drive by each year for history and photography. The Boom or Bust Byway is north of Shreveport, on Highway 2. Travelers can get a good look at the early days of our oil industry and, in the early summer, a display of wildflowers, some native only to Louisiana, that are stunning.
